The Thanks for Life Project – Window on the World of Rotary Week
The Window on the World of Rotary Week (20th to 28th February 2010) is expected to be supported by Clubs throughout RIBI.

The idea is to showcase the work of Rotary in the local community, nationally and internationally with the emphasis on the work to eradicate polio.

A suitable venue would be an empty shop in the local high street. Alternatively an area of an existing retail outlet such as a supermarket would be ideal. Libraries, medical centres, community centres could also be used. Early agreement to use the chosen premises is important.

Also at an early stage it’s necessary to agree what to display in terms of equipment, such as a shelter box, and visual material telling the story of the Club’s activities.

The material displayed should by eye-catching and informative aimed at getting members of the public more aware of the work of Rotary. This could alsolead to futureimproved collaboration with local communities and businesses.

The potential for getting people interested in joining Rotary is very important.

Quality pictures are an essential part of the display and if possible showing short DVDs would be ideal. There are a number of DVDs available from Rotary International and many are available free of charge. For more information go to the District 1010 TfL website. If, as is likely, there will only be one display projector, consider making up your own summary DVD selecting the important points from the various DVDs that are available.

During the Window on the World Week, well informed and well briefed and enthusiastic Rotarian presence is essential. The form of dress is important with the preference for casual rather than formal and chains should be kept in their boxes. The event is primarily for informing and should not be used for any fundraising.

During the Window on the World Week consider getting a few beneficiaries of Rotary support on hand to give their first hand experience of the support received from the Club.

In addition to preparing the material for display it’s very important to generate media interest by sending early press releases to local papers and broadcaster at the beginning of January 2010. This should be followed up by further press releases about a week before the chosen week, probably the end of January 2010. Hopefully there will be good media interest and if local broadcast stations want interviewsmake sure that the chosen spokesman is well informed and confident.
