The Thanks for Life Project - Overview
[An RIBI-based project]
1. The Main Aims
- Raise £1m for Polio Eradication through the “Thanks for Life” initiative
- Maximise public awareness of the Rotary Polio campaign, the Gates Challenge and Rotary in general
- Increase membership
- Organise a co-ordinated campaign, working towards February 23rd 2010, Rotary Day, and the period around it [February 20 – 28th]
- Clubs in District 1010 to contribute towards meeting the overall objectives by:
§ Organising Polio Eradication fundraising event(s) in local community
§ Obtaining wide-ranging media coverage
§ Organising a “Window on the World of Rotary” week
2. The Linked Initiatives - There are a number of initiatives that support the “Thanks for Life” campaign:
2.1 Thanks for Life:
- Linking with local schools for awareness-raising of the Polio campaign
- Linking with local schools for fund generation initiatives
- Interaction with parents - Rotary membership potential
- Involve / establish Interact Clubs
- Involve / establish Rotaract Clubs
2.2 Rotary National Immunisation Days:
- Organise a specific NID project
- Maximise PR opportunities
- Support with production of background material to publicise the campaign
2.3 Windows of Opportunity:
- Every Club (or group of Clubs) to utilise an empty shop window, or suitable public venue, to showcase Rotary and in particular the Polio Eradication campaign
- Interact with shoppers
- Publicise local Polio events - schools etc.
2.4 Maximise PR opportunities:
- Showcase Rotary in general
- Multi-faceted media ‘blitz' at local, zone and District levels
- Opportunity to attract new members
2.5 Business involvement:
- Engage with local business community to generate funding and heighten profile
- Maximise PR opportunities
